Primary Research of Technology for Frankenstein's lab
The environment for Frankenstein's lab is heavily populated with science/ technology. As primary research, I collected a series of photographs looking at the technology and machinery at a brewery. Although this is modern technology, I want to explore the reality of scientific machinery. I can use these images as a premise of props with in the lab, and then manipulate and age them using texture and colour in their representation.

Wednesday 28th January 2015 Meeting Minutes:
Background Layouts- completed
Frankenstein scene Key frames- in progress
Peter Pan scene Key frames- completed
Scarlet Letter- in progress
Task: Complete/ finalise backgrounds ready to inbetween approved key framed animation next week
Feedback from Hilary
- Change in camera angles too much
- Too much water in Chocolate factory- difficult/ lengthy to animate
- Cut Scarlet Letter, not understandable if you don't know the story and it is less well known
- Animate by sequence rather than so many seconds each
- Pick a sequence each to animate and control so that the conflicting drawing styles issue is resolved.
The Library
- Put the 'Overdue' on the right page of the book and an illustration on the left
- Customer should walk on screen from big to small {use the camera} From silhouette to become clearer in the distance to use dimensional space
- Lovely nice day outside to contrast with the dark dreary Library
- Put a clock reaching 5pm behind her to hint that she is waiting to leave and that it is nearly home time
- Take the book down and look down. Then cut to her point of view and see the hand open the book then fade in
- See the illustration of the sequence and then zoom into that illustration and track through to the animation
Gulliver's Travels
- Track illustration of the background to Faye
- See her point of view (the sun)
- Then show her lay back
- Zoom into the driftwood/ wreckage
- Show the Lilliputians one by one
- Then they tip toe out one by one with ropes
- Long shot of Faye tied down with ropes
- Dramatic shot looking up at Faye's breast and shin with Lilliputians on and around her
- Close up of Lilliputian being shaken as Faye and the ground starts to rumble
- Long shot of Faye turning over (reuse shot 9) Hear the splat of Lilliputians
Peter Pan
- Have the sails down and anchor down. Just animate the boat bobbing rather than sailing
- Have Captain hook enter from the left up the stairs
- 3/4 side view where Faye swats Tinkerbell
- Over the shoulder close up of Tinkbell being wiped and flicked off the side of the boat (Show the audience what they should be looking at)
Scarlett Letter
- Cut Scarlett Letter out; isn't as well known as the other stories and doesn't make sense if the view hasn't already read the book or know the story
Frankenstein
- See Frankenstein in the establishing shot (back of him close to camera as a silhouette)
- Need internal timing of the film- time out with a stop watch or film to make a timed animatic to see if the action fits the time
Red Riding Hood
- Put on hold for now
- Have to show her getting out of bed
- Show the wolf actually turning and running into the woods
Willie Wonka
- Cut for now
- A lot of water to animate so would be difficult and lengthy to animate

The Library Backgrounds
Kate Gilbert's Establishing shot showing outside the Library
After showing the line work over her original to Kate, it was agreed that the black line around the buildings in the foreground should be made a lighter colour and that there shouldn't be so much small detail in the grass. The result of these modifications can be found below.
Kate Gilbert's Establishing shot showing outside the Library
Based on Kate Gilbert's design for the establishing shot showing outside the Library on a sunny bright day (to contrast with the dull dim interior of the Library), I started to redesign the backgrounds for the interior based on the blocked colour and more subtle line work.

Library background 2 |
Library background 3 |
After further discussions with Kate, we decided to keep the original backgrounds for the interior of the Library and that I should modify Kate's Establishing shot design by adding line work similar to the original Library backgrounds.

Animation Production
Animating Gulliver's Travels
Rough animation scenes in sequence
Notes:
- Sequence 3: When the Lilliputian is throwing the rope, Faye's hand shouldn't be there because her arms are behind her neck.
- Sequence 6: Faye is turning the wrong way
- Clean up the characters before inbetweening
05/03/15 Animation
Inbetweened animation
Notes:
- Fix proportions in Photoshop during clean up
- Draw in corrections made in yellow
- If time, work on sequence 5 to make more interesting action/ more comical
- Redraw background for sequence 6 to fix the changed direction of Faye turning
- Redraw/ finalise backgrounds for sequence 3 and 5

Animation Post Production
For Post Production, as a team we intend to move forward from the Production stage by export our individual Adobe Flash files as PNGs or TIFFs as lossless image files to take into Adobe Photoshop. Then we will proceed with clean up, drawing thick, clean black lines using the existing files as a guide. We will also colour in Photoshop of which the colour scheme will be tones of sepia as agree with the team.
